Amber is a minor character in Season 2 of Atypical. She’s a teenage girl in the autism peer group, along with Sam Gardner. She’s the only daughter of Megan. Amber is portrayed by autistic actress Layla Weiner.

Biography[]

In the episode "Little Dude and the Lion" of the second Season, Amber is first seen with the guidance counselor or the leader of the peer group, Ms. Whitaker. She’s also seen with Sam Gardner and other autistic teenagers, such especially Jasper, Noelle, Lily and Sabrina, in the autism peer group meeting. When Sam talks about attending college, she statistically talks about how there is about a 20% or lower chance of autistic students graduating from college, and how most of them are not able to succeed with their college career. After the meeting is over, Sam accidentally left his college portfolio in the room, giving Amber an opportunity to snatch it from him to prevent him from getting accepted into Denton University.

In the episode "Living at an Angle", unfortunately for Amber, Amber either confesses to her mother about violating Sam's personal property (due to her high empathy, brutal honesty and autism) or her mother eventually finds out about it. They both travel to the Gardner's house, where Amber returns the portfolio to Sam, because she was worried about him not being able to handle college. Her mother tells her to apologize to Sam and his parents about the situation. She complies with her mother, and they both leave the Gardner's home immediately. Although, she isn't punished for her actions against Sam by her mother, due to Amber's high empathy, brutal honesty and autism.

In the episode "Cocaine Pills and Pony Meat", Amber gets a panic attack from stress or social anxiety. In relief, her mother, Doug, and Chuck all came to her rescue by prescribing her with an anti-depressant medication, and they make her rest.
