Bailey Bennett

Bailey Bennett is a recurring character introduced in Season 1 of Atypical. She is described as the mean girl who enjoys bullying girls, specifically Beth Chapin. Bailey is portrayed by actress Ariela Barer.

Biography[]

Bailey is one of the students who attends Newton High School. First shown in the episode "Antarctica" of Season 1, she is laughing at Beth's vandalized locker. When Casey Gardner realizes that this was Bailey's doing, she punches her in the face, resulting in a blackeye on Bailey's face and Casey's suspension.

In the episode "A Human Female", Bailey's family is revealed to be one of the biggest in terms of funding school activities. This includes a bus that the Track Team used for a ride to a competition, forcing Casey to begrudgingly apologize to her, so that her father will fund their bus this year.

Later on, Bailey Bennett is with Arlo (who she flirts with by kissing him) and the other popular kids. When Sam approaches her and Arlo to ask them on how to steal a girlfriend and he calls her a "skank" for kissing Henry and then Arlo, Arlo is offended and annoyed by Sam. He and his followers intimidate Sam by insulting him that he will never get laid by girls, but once Sam's social anxiety starts to increase and while Bailey, in pity of Sam, tells Arlo and his followers to stop messing with him, Sam runs away from them.

In the episode "The Egg Is Pipping" of the second Season, after Sam was bullied by Arlo a second time by breaking his phone and pushing him to the ground, she meets up with him and cheers him up. When Sam flees from class, he is found hiding in the art classroom closet and Bailey Bennett is found hiding in a cabinet. Bailey gives her phone for Sam to borrow, while she calls Arlo a jerk, indicating that she is no longer friends with him. She also lit a cigarette to smoke. They both later become closer to each other, as Sam shows her the baby penguin and Bailey tells him about her life.

In the episode "The Smudging", when Paige overhears Sam and Bailey as she finishes painting a bench for the senior gift, she pulls the fire alarm, while noticing Bailey's cigarette smoke in the art classroom closet. The three are all called by Ms. Whitaker into her office, and Sam and Bailey are both assigned community service. During her community service with Sam outside of Newton High School, she tries to bond with him by helping him pick up any junk on the ground to clean up and eventually, kissing him passionately and longer than anyone else, unlike her casual kiss with Arlo and Henry from before.

Bailey Bennett is a former bully.
She has feelings for Sam by kissing him as she felt bad for him when Arlo and the other popular kids bullied him. This is further evidenced when she is the only person who stands up against Arlo who picks on Sam. In other words, she has way more empathy than Arlo and his followers do.
She loves to smoke in the art classroom's closet alone, breaking school's rule.
She mostly doesn't have any friends, making her a social outcast like Sam.
