Miss. Whitaker is a minor character in Season 2 of Atypical. She’s the leader of the autism peer group that Sam, Amber, Jasper, Sabrina, Lily and Noelle all attend at Newton High School. Miss. Whitaker is portrayed by actress Casey Wilson.

Biography[]

In the episode "Little Dude and the Lion" of the second Season, Ms. Whitaker's first appearance is when she is in her advisor office, where she discusses to Sam's parents about Sam's plan for college. Furthermore, she recommends a support group she runs for people with autism who are Sam's age. Sam believes that he doesn't need a support group at first, but he eventually complies with her.

Afterward, Miss. Whitaker is next seen in the autism peer group with Sam and the other kids. She asks them to discuss about their futures after they finish high school. She also encourages them to build a college portfolio and to apply for several colleges to increase their acceptance into one of them.

In the episode "Pants on Fire", Miss. Whitaker checks Sam's college application essay. She disapproves of him putting details about him witnessing Destiny's breasts outside of the strip club, which dates back from the episode "The D-Train to Bone Town" of the first Season. She recommends him to write an essay about his experience with autism.

In the episode "The Smudging", when Paige overhears Sam and Bailey as she finishes painting a bench for the senior gift, she pulls the fire alarm after noticing Bailey's cigarette smoke in the art classroom's closet. The three are all called by Miss. Whitaker into her office and as punishment, Sam and Bailey are both assigned community service. Seeing his notebook, Miss. Whitaker notices Sam's artistic ability, which she praises very much.

In the episode "Ernest Shackleton's Rules for Survival", Miss. Whitaker provides her speech to congratulate every senior students for graduating from Newton High School to pursue their own careers in life and to bid them farewell. On top of that, she allows Sam to take Paige's place of making a big speech in front of everyone at the graduation ceremony. She applauds Sam's big speech and she tells every students to toss their graduation caps up in the air.

  • Miss. Whitaker is in her 30s.
  • In addition to her being the leader of the peer group, she’s the guidance counselor of the school.
  • Miss Whitaker didn't return in Season 3. According to Coach Briggs, she was on her honeymoon and her flight back had gotten delayed.
