Nate is a recurring character introduced in Season 2 of Atypical. He was Casey's first friend at Clayton Prep and Izzie's boyfriend until she breaks up with him at the end of the Season because he tried to kiss Casey. Nate is portrayed by actor Graham Philips.
Biography[]
In the episode "Penguin Cam and Chill" of the second Season, Nate is a student at Clayton Prep. He is first shown meeting Casey when she is trying to open a locker she assumes is hers, which turns out to be his. He is friendly towards her, and he becomes her first friend at Clayton Prep. It is shown later on when Casey receives a text from him asking if she wants to have lunch with him at the cafeteria.
In the episode "The Egg Is Pipping", at Clayton Prep's cafeteria, he invites his rich friends, Casey, and Evan to eat pizza there. Although, it didn't go well when Nate acts disrespectful and cocky to Evan. Evan leaves the cafeteria since he tells Casey that he doesn't like how Nate is a snobbish, fake jerk to him, as well as saying how Casey has changed when she switched schools.
Furthermore, Nate tells Casey that Izzie doesn't like her, because she's faster.
In the episode "In the Dragon's Lair", regardless, Nate, Izzie and Casey all become really close with each other. When Izzie stays over at Casey's house due to problems in her family, Nate is invited as well, and the three of them watch a movie. Izzie falls asleep almost immediately, and during that, Nate kisses Casey, thinking that there was something more between them. Casey immediately pushes him off her, and tells him to leave the house. He lies to Izzie the next day that Casey kissed him, which makes Izzie more distant from Casey.
In the episode "Standing Sam" of Season 3, while Nate is carrying his milkshake at school and insulting Casey for accusing him of cheating on Izzie, Casey shoves his own milkshake at him, spilling his milkshake on his uniform. Casey aggressively apologizes to his face and she leaves a wet Nate, feeling annoyed and embarrassed that she humiliated him for lying to Izzie about Casey kissing him at the Gardner home.
