Professor Shinerock is a fictional character who is first introduced in Season 3 of Atypical. He is Sam Gardner's and Abby's eccentric and laid-back art teacher at Denton University. Professor Shinerock is portrayed by actor Eric McCormack.
Biography[]
In the episode "Y.G.A.G.G." of the third Season, in art class at Denton University, Professor Shinerock lectures everyone about the beauty of art, and how art describes naturalism in life.
In the episode "The Essence of a Penguin", Professor Shinerock considers Sam (who only cares about passing his art class rather than the joy of it) to be his best art student, due to how amazing Sam's drawing of the penguin, Stumpy, is, compared to other students in class. Professor Shinerock tasks Sam to sketch something that is politically-related as his assignment. Sam follows with what his professor tasks him to do.
At Sam's house, Sam sketches a drawing of penguins dying to climate change in Antarctica, where it is melting and a bloodbath of dead penguins. Back at college, in art class, he hands it over to his art professor, who is very impressed by his work.
Later on, back in art class, Sam presents his penguin picture to his entire art class about penguins being the only species who don't leave Antarctica and that they persevere until the end of their lives, while taking care of their children. Professor Shinerock feels deeply touched by Sam's presentation and he asks if he can give Sam a big hug, which Sam allows him to. Ultimately, at the end of Sam's first semester, he grants Sam an A for his entire class.
